Artist Statement
My work so far has been done through a variety of mediums as I seek to find the best form for sharing the concept behind the work. As an undergrad, I expanded into the digital realm by learning how to animate, code, and draw digitally. I also created virtual reality worlds that allowed people to escape for a moment in time during the difficulties of quarantine. Technology is such a powerful medium that I hope I can further explore with similar impact in future works.
The themes of my art frequently revolve around societal issues such as colonialism, gender, race, and social class. The work I create is heavily influenced by my own experiences of being a Chicana woman and my financial struggles growing up. Art is such a great outlet for our traumatic pasts and I find the topics I address to be healing. |
